Plum Onigiri
Ume onigiri (梅おにぎり) is a classic. It may not be an exaggeration to say that it is the original rice ball. Ume rice balls are made with white rice and pickled plums, which also sterilize the rice, and are synonymous with simplicity in Japan.
Ingredients (6 rice balls):
Basic Ume Onigiri:
200g Japanese rice *steamed
2 Pickled plum
2 sheet Nori seaweed
Salt, as needed
Ume & Yukari Onigiri:
200g Japanese rice with glutinous millet
1 Pickled plum *crunchy type
1 tsp Yukari *dried purple basil and salt
2 Pickled plum *without seed
Mixed Ume Onigiri:
200g Japanese rice with glutinous millet
1 Pickled plum *crunchy type
1 tsp Yukari *dried purple basil and salt
5g Bonito flakes
1 Tbsp White sesame seeds
1 tsp Dried kelp *shredded
1 pinch Salt
*Canola oil & Soy sauce for grilled version onigiri
Directions:
Basic Ume Onigiri:
1. prepare cooked white rice, water, and salt.
2. Make a triangle shaped rice ball and make a shallow indentation in the center. Put the pickled plum in it.
Ume & Yukari Onigiri:
1. prepare cooked white rice with glutinous millet.
2. Add the chopped red pickles and yukari in it.
3. Make a round shaped rice ball and make a shallow indentation in the center. Put the pickled plum in it.
Mixed Ume Onigiri:
1. Prepare cooked white rice with glutinous millet.
2. Add the chopped red pickles and yukari in it.
3. Stir and then, add the rest of the ingredients. Lightly Stir.
4. Make a triangle shaped rice ball and grill the onigiri on a frying pan.

YUCa’s Tips :
1. Adjust the flavor according to the size of the pickled plums you cut.
2. Ume Mixed Onigiri does not need to be baked to be delicious!
