Categorised in: | Link of this article

Yaki Onigiri(焼きおにぎり)is one of my favorite onigiri and so as my family! The Yaki Onigiri that is sold at the convenience stores is a bit different that my grand-parents and parents cooked for me when I was a child.

In this video, I will show you how to make Yaki Onigiri (Japanese Grilled Rice Balls) in two different style. One with traditional style and the other Modern style. Please check how to enjoy both tastes!

Ingredients (2 rice balls):

Traditional style:
300G (100G x 3)  Japanese rice  *steamed
2 Tbsp  Soy sauce
2 Tbsp  Canola oil
2 tsp  Mirin

Modern style:
300G (100G x 3)  Japanese rice  *steamed
1 Tbsp  Soy sauce
1/2 Tbsp  Mirin

2 Tbsp  Canola oil

Directions:

Traditional style:
1. Prepare cooked rice and water in separate bowls.
2. Wet your palms and put a certain amount of rice on the palm.
3. With using both hands, roll and form the onigiri to make triangle shape.
4. Pour canola oil in a pan and put onigiri.
5. Grill them until all surfaces get brown color.
6. Mix the seasonings in a bowl and apply the sauce little by little with a brush.

Modern style:

6. Grill them until all surfaces get brown color.

YUCa’s Tips:
