Directions :
Santa Sushi Roll:
1. Cut the nori seaweed according to the size of each part.
2. Place a little bit of rice on each of the five sheets of nori with your fingers.
3. Roll up one slice of cheese and wrap in nori seaweed.
4. Fold each of the two slices of cheese in half, stack the two together, and then wrap in a half-sized piece of nori. Cut off the remaining portion and set aside.
5. Add the grated carrots and rice vinegar to the rest of the rice used earlier and mix well until the whole mixture is a light orange color.
6. Wrap the sushi rice in plastic wrap and make a block with the bamboo mat, aligning it with the width of the nori.
7. Add the denbu and rice vinegar to the separately prepared rice and mix until light pink. Then, repeat (6).
8. Put a long piece of nori seaweed glued with rice grains in your hand, place five pieces of nori seaweed with rice on top.
9. Then, place the orange color sushi rice, the nori with cheese wrapped around it right next to it, and the pink color sushi rice on top of it in that order. Finally, close the sides by folding in the nori.
10. After shaping the roll, wrap them in plastic wrap and set aside for a while.
11. In the meantime, prepare the cheese and nori for Santa’s eyes, carrots for his nose, and kanikama for his cheeks.
12. After a while, cut the top of the plastic wrap into four pieces, wetting the knife with water each time.
13. Using tweezers, decorate Santa’s face.
Reindeer Inarizushi (Inari Sushi):
1. Decorate the reindeer with cheese and seaweed for the eyes, dried plums for the nose, crabapples for the neck, and pretzels for the antlers.
YUCa’s Tips :
1. Use paprika powder or tomato powder as for substitution of denbu.
2. Use butter instead of rice vinegar.
3. Use tomato, pickled plum, paprika or ham instead of kanikama.
