Recipe : Matcha Steamed Bun
There is something special about cooking together in the kitchen.
Recently, my daughter and I made fluffy matcha steamed cakes using YUCa’s Tea Organic Uji Matcha.

What started as a simple afternoon snack became a wonderful opportunity to spend time together, learn, and create something delicious from scratch.
As we mixed the batter, the beautiful green color of the matcha caught her attention.
“Mommy, it’s so pretty!”
Moments like these remind me that cooking is about much more than food. It’s about connection, curiosity, and creating memories together.
Why We Love Matcha Steamed Cakes
Steamed cakes are soft, light, and easy to make. Unlike baked cakes, they don’t require an oven, making them a perfect recipe for families and beginner cooks.
Adding matcha gives them a beautiful natural color and a delicate balance of sweetness and umami. They are perfect for breakfast, an afternoon snack, or serving with a cup of Japanese tea.
Why I Chose YUCa’s Tea Organic Uji Matcha
For this recipe, I used YUCa’s Tea Organic Uji Matcha, sourced from Kyoto, Japan.
Made from carefully cultivated organic tea leaves, this matcha offers a vibrant green color, smooth umami, and a gentle aroma that works beautifully not only for traditional tea preparation but also for baking and cooking.
One of my favorite things about matcha is its versatility. A small amount can transform an ordinary recipe into something uniquely Japanese while adding depth of flavor and natural beauty.

Ingredients (Serves 4):
90 g cake flour
6 g baking powder
6 g matcha powder
60 g sugar
1 egg (about 60 g)
12 g unsalted butter
30 g milk
12 g vegetable oil
4 cups or ramekins

Instructions:
1. Sift all the dry ingredients together.
Melt the butter. Beat the egg lightly.
2. In a bowl, combine the cake flour, baking powder, matcha powder, and sugar.
Add the egg, melted butter, milk, and vegetable oil, then mix together.
It’s okay if there are still a few small lumps — do not overmix.
3. Pour the batter into cups.
Steam over medium to medium-high heat for 12–15 minutes.
4. Insert a skewer into the center.
If no batter sticks to it, they’re done!
Note:
You can really taste the matcha flavor, but the butter makes these steamed breads mild and easy to enjoy.
