Shiraae/Shira-ae (Tofu Salad) 白和え

The tofu salad is called shiraae (しらあえ) in Japanese. This dish usually is cooked with several vegetables (like spinach, carrot, shiitake mushrooms) and eaten as a side dish at breakfast, lunch or dinner. Even in a bento!

The process of making shiraae is really easy! Wrap tofu with kitchen paper and drain well at first. (This is really simple but important!) Then, mix with boiled veggies and konnyaku (devil’s tongue) or Hijiki seaweed etc. At last, add soy sauce and grinded sesame seeds. That’s it!
